Quaker’s Best Oatmeal Cookies

The traditional oatmeal cookie at its best! Warm and lovely flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg make this hearty cookie a holiday favorite.


  • Cup(s) (2½ sticks) margarine or butter, softened

  • Cup(s) firmly packed brown sugar

  • Cup(s) granulated sugar

  • Egg(s)

  • Teaspoon(s) vanilla

  • Cup(s) all-purpose flour

  • Teaspoon(s) Baking Soda

  • Teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon

  • Teaspoon(s) salt (optional)

  • Teaspoon(s) ground nutmeg

  • Cup(s) Quaker® Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)


  1. Heat oven to 375°F.

  2. In large bowl, beat margarine and sugars until creamy.

  3. Add egg and vanilla; beat well.

  4. Add oats; mix well.

  5. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

  6. Bake 8 to 9 minutes for a chewy cookie or 10 to 11 minutes for a crisp cookie.

  7. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to wire rack. Cool completely. Store tightly covered.
